当初は、当サイトをバイリンガル対応にするため、日本語に加え、英語の文章も貼り付けるようにしていましたが、段々と面倒になったので、WordPressのプラグインの一つ、”Transposh(https://transposh.org)”のウィジェットに翻訳を任せました。しかし、それは安易な考えだったようです。
試しにですが、”select language”のリストBOXから英語を選びますと、google翻訳(default)により以下のように表示されます。

なんだか意味不明の翻訳内容に…
どうやら、複雑な日本語の翻訳は難しいようです。（以下は、修正文）
でも、難しい日本語を書かなければ、それなりに翻訳されます。後半の文章はそのまま引用しています。

という感じです。日本語の文章に冗長性が高い程、翻訳精度が悪くなるかと思います。
機械翻訳の精度を高めるには、なるべく簡潔に簡単な日本語で記述すれば良いのかとは思いますが、それでは稚拙で無味乾燥な日本語になりそうだし、悩ましい所です。
いずれにせよ、ブログを書いても機械翻訳の結果が支離滅裂なので、完全にバイリンガル対応にするためには、Transposhの間違った翻訳結果を修正する作業に相当な時間が掛かりそうです。英語だけで手が一杯だというのに、Transposhは、最大で82種類のマルチリンガルをサポートしています。全ての言語をチェックする事なんか、どう考えても無理ですよねー。(>_<)
なお、Transposhですが、WordPressの固定ページへの自動翻訳は可能ですが、プラグインのPHPプログラムが出力する文字の翻訳は出来ません。ですので、プログラム側でバイリンガル対応をする必要があります。よって、本システムでゲストブック用にインストールしたDMSGuestbookのプラグインは、日本語と英語の併記で対応する事にしました。
因みにですが、ブログなどTransposhが機械翻訳した変な英文の翻訳結果の修正は未だ終わっていません。現在、暇な時間に徐々に直しているところです。orz
しかし、このサイトへの海外からのアクセスは20%くらいなので、今の所そんなに重要なタスクではないと考えております。寧ろ、マルチリンガルをサポートする事でシステムのオーバーヘッドを高めているようなので、Google Analyticsの解析結果を基にサポートする言語を数カ国語に絞るよう目下検討中です。

上記の記事は、５年以上前の記事であり、現在、Google翻訳、Bing翻訳とも以前より翻訳の精度は向上しています。
